Location and Travel

From Channel Ports - We are approximately 10 hours drive from the channel ports (including stopping times). This is a manageable days journey, however we always prefer to break the journey staying overnight in one of the many 'credit-card' hotels which can be found close to the motorways on the outskirts of any of the major towns. Our prefered chains are Formule1 and Campanille. The rooms are clean with basic facilities and optional breakfasts and can be booked on line through their websites. Our recommended route A1 Paris, A71 Clermont Ferrand, A75 East of Rodez, N88 through Rodez towards Albi. Some people dislike driving around Paris, although we have never found this a problem. If you want to avoid Paris you can go Rouen, Orleans, Bourges, Clermont Ferrand.

Fly Stansted/ Rodez - with Ryanair - flights can be extremely cheap sometimes 1p plus taxes!
( Beware the strict 15kg per person baggage allowance). We are a straightforward 35 minute drive from the airport. It is easy to hire a car at the airport with a variety of companies providing competitive rates. From the airport turn right heading for Rodez. Pass straight over 2 roundabouts. At the third roundabout turn right direciont Albi RN88. Stay on this road, through Baraqueville, Naucelle Gare, St Martial, past a tractor seller on your right, see sign for La Baraque St Jean, road starts to go into a dual carriageway, just at the beginning turn right on D17 direction Pampelonne, if you go over the viaduct you have gone too far and need to turn back! On the D17 just go straight along the country road, past a few farms and you will see Teillet church on the hill on your right. Take the turning signposted right Teillet 0.6, go to very top and at T junction turn left, follow road round a sharp bend and we are immediately on your right (wrought iron gates).

Fly Toulouse - with all major airlines or Bmibaby, Flybe, Easyjet. Often a good bet if you are travelling from outside London with direct links from Bristol, Manchester, Leeds. We are a 1 hour 20 minute straightforward drive from the airport, most of the journey being motorway or dual carriageway. Out of the airport take Toulouse signs onto motorway and then A68 Albi, drive around Albi ringroad following signs to Rodez on the N88. We are half way between Albi and Rodez. The airport has all major carhire companies.
